And yes, I can’t help but laugh and sneer at public officials of the past (and present) especially that “bold” question posed by former Rep. Mikey Arroyo to the entire country when his mom’s (former president Gloria Arroyo) administration was dodging criticisms from all corners of the known world over that 1 million peso dinner at upscale resto Le Cirque in New York. If you missed the wise words of the former congressman, he asked: “Do you want the President of the Philippines to eat at McDonald’s or eat hotdogs for lunch?” Well, something like that. Can’t remember the exact words. I mean, it’s not exactly comparable to words of sages. So you can’t blame me for forgetting.
By the way, here’s PNoy eating his hotdog standing, one fine day in New York (to the horror of the security details I bet).
It’s not really uncommon for one to eat hotdogs there. That’s New York. Good hotdogs are part of what makes New York what it is. And skipping a hotdog experience by the sidewalk is like going to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower. It’s simply unforgivable.
But even then, spending $54 for food and drinks out in the streets is in stark contrast with a $20,000 dinner lavishly served in an exclusive restaurant in the same city.
The man may not be as brilliant as the predecessor but definitely one who walks the talk.
Take that all you insensitive and out-of-touch public officials who partook of that 1 million peso ‘celebratory’ dinner!
I wonder what it was you were celebrating at that time. If it’s personal money spent, well and good. But if it’s money from us taxpayers, beware: You will vomit it all out in due time, whether you like it or not.
That hotdog must have tasted like a slice of heaven. Needless to say, a sidewalk hotdog purchased with a clear conscience tastes far better than caviar bought with stolen money.
