Happy International Women's Day

“..And she’ll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she’ll carelessly cut you

And laugh while you’re bleedin’
But she’ll bring out the best

And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she’s always a woman to me…”

— from “She’s Always A Woman” by Billy Joel

I woke up pretty late today — a lot late than usual. Probably because it’s a Sunday. But guess the first thing that came to my mind that evoked a wide smile on my face? Today — March 8, 2009 is International Women’s Day! It’s my day. Ladies, it’s our day! I’m sure by now, Bloggers Unite participating bloggers are churning-out posts and populating the web with “women’s day” articles.

Having that thought in mind, I immediately logged in to my desktop and decided to start this day with really good “ladies music”. I plan to have coffee after this post, shop for food, watch a movie, read a good book and savor every minute of this day. After all, I know that this day is being celebrated and commemorated the world over — not just by women like me, but more so, by men who acknowledge, understand and appreciate the wonderful role that women play in their lives and society in general. Your mother. Your grandmother. Your aunt. Your niece. Your cousin. Your friend. Your classmate. Your officemate. Your boss. The world, with all its hassles and burdens, becomes a little more bearable because of that female that inspires you to go to work or that lady at the grocery store that’s a little more helpful or that appreciative boss who recognizes your efforts for a job well done.

Women, as I’ve mentioned before in a previous post, have now become prime movers and shakers of society. Gone are the days when their task is limited to household chores and gone are the days when they were preferred to “be seen and not heard”. Today, in a more tolerant and modern society, women have gone far beyond territories that their predecessors were allowed to roam in.They have exceeded expectations in the economic, social and even political arena. No longer can it be said that women are inferior by any measure. History is replete with stories of successful women in various fields.

But let it be said, for the purpose of fair discussion and display of gratefulness, that this so-called “girl power” generation has been successful partly and in by no means lesser, because of the fact that the men of our generation have been supportive of women. And for that, I would like to honor these men as well, who saw beyond the beauty of women — men who saw that what lies within is far greater than what was evident in that disarming smile or that long, shiny pair of adorable, sexy legs.

I honor and congratulate women from all over the world, from the past to the present — and yes, even to the women of the future, of the accomplishments they have made, are making and will make. Ladies, this is your day.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day — officially. But to me, and to most people surrounded by wonderful women, Everyday is Women’s Day!

About Me
Cecilia Regina Aquino Blanquera Marmol aka RJ Marmol profile picture

I’m RJ Marmol — writer, musician, and independent creator based in Manila.

I write songs, essays, and books about the messy overlap between money, overwhelm, creativity, identity, and rebuilding. Much of my work circles around what happens when life stops feeling manageable — and how we try to think clearly, make decisions, and keep moving anyway.

I’m also the author of Rebuilding Under Debt: Thinking Clearly When Everything Is a Blur, a nonfiction book published under Steady Hand Press. The paperback edition is listed under my full publishing name, Cecilia Regina Aquino Blanquera.

On the music side, I release work as HeyRJ. On the writing side, this site is where I gather my books, essays, notes, and whatever I’m building next.

Music

HeyRJ is my sonic soul project. I create raw, minimalist-style and deeply personal music interpretations that feel like a late-night conversation with your truest self.

By blending lo-fi acoustic textures with poetic honesty, my work explores love, loss, grief, healing, and the quiet in-betweens of life. Each song is a letter — a journal entry — a gentle companion for when the world feels too loud or too quiet.

While my catalogue began with intimate cover renditions, my work is increasingly being shaped by original writing, drawing from years of poems, lived questions, and emotional survival.

“Stuck Home Syndrome” released on March 20, 2026 is my first original 20-track album written during a period when time felt compressed and days began to blur into each other. The songs came from sitting with thoughts that had nowhere else to go — unfiltered, repetitive, and sometimes uncomfortable. It’s a concept album that isn’t built around singles or polish. It’s closer to a continuous inner monologue, recorded with minimal production and very little ornamentation and meant to be listened to as one cohesive body of work. The goal wasn’t to resolve anything, only to document how it felt while it was happening.

On May 29, 2026 I released new original singles – “Rapturous”, “Uh Huh”, “Look At You”, “All That” and “Blew Print”. I continue to release both original and cover songs and intend to so for as long as I can so check back every once in a while — you might. just find something you’ll like.

Rebuilding Under Debt: Thinking Clearly When Everything Is a Blur

A nonfiction book about what debt does to the mind — and how to begin functioning again when financial stress has made everything feel blurred, urgent, and overwhelming.

Rather than treating debt only as a financial math problem, the book explores the emotional and cognitive realities of financial distress: shame, decision fatigue, avoidance, panic, relationship strain, and the difficulty of making sound decisions while mentally depleted.

Published under Steady Hand Press. It’s available worldwide in ebook and paperback formats on Amazon. Bookstores and libraries can also be order it wholesale via Ingram.
