The way prices are soaring like crazy, it seems that we are doomed to crawl in poverty. Call it eternal damnation on earth, call it whatever you want actually. It won’t matter anyway, because it seems that the inevitable is here and here to stay. The papers say it all. The previously and seemingly unaffected middle class that used to “grin and bear it”, has now started screaming “too much”. If these people who drive their own cars and go home to their airconditioned houses find all these price increases outrageous, how much more suffering is it bringing to the rest of us? As if lining up for NFA rice is not enough, LPG prices are increasing almost every other week or so.. and we’re not talking about 50cents increase per kilogram here. No sir. We’re talking 5.50 pesos per kilogram or probably even more in the future. Passenger jeepney fare is now 8 pesos minimum. The rice we bought at the grocery costs 48 pesos per kilo! How much money do you have to spend to get a decently-looking and decently-tasting rice these days? That’s how much. Even saving up money might not save us. This high inflation phenomenon affects everything, from basic commodities to savings interests. As it turns out, clinging to your hard-earned peso is not enough to buy you out of this economic tragedy that befell us. Although hardly helping at the moment, financial analysts however, still believe and recommend that we save up.

They even encourage those who have the capacity, to save as much as they can because although it’s not the magical solution to all our economic woes at the moment, saving money will still do us more good than harm.They even add that to protect our savings, make it a priority not to spend interest earnings on these savings, rather, add it to the principal. That way, savings are protected from inflation. Well, I don’t know about you guys, maybe you have money to spare and save in the bank for all eternity. Good for you. As for the rest of us, good luck. Because the way the economy is behaving, it seems like inflation, not terrorism (heck, not even global warming or climate change) will kill us all. And boy, am I scared.

I’ve been quite frightened lately too about the exact same things you have written about here. I find myself thinking back to my past, wishing that I could have been more responsible financially, and also like I should have enjoyed or appreciated the good (easy) times more.
But on the other hand I think of how I believe everything that has happened to me in my life (good and bad) has happened for a reason, and how I also believe that to be true for the world and humanity in general.

hi victor! yeah, same here. i miss the good old days when everything seemed much simpler and cheaper. and i guess it’s true that we are paying our dues now, after all the abuses we’ve done economically, politically and perhaps even technologically. thanks for the usual visit victor!

Your right. The old days when I am buying some candies it only costs 25centavos but now it cost 1peso. how ridiculous. That’s just a candy. About the fare, My trip from our home to Caloocan only cost 5pesos in the old times but now it cost 10pesos and 50centavos. And asking how the government will find solution to the problem? They will never and they can’t… Because Government IS the problem.

very true angelo! nothing comes cheap nowadays. and the worse part is that the worst is yet to come… i don’t know how much longer we can bear all these… and yes, the government, despite all their “highly-publicised” efforts doesn’t seem to ease the suffering one bit… we are headed for the ultimate crisis and we aren’t even equipped to handle the lesser ones… we’re doomed!
