“HumStar” Song Guessing iPhone App: Turn Humdrum to HumStar [REVIEW]
So, you like to sing, err hum, eh? Well, have I got an app for you!
If you’ve played “Draw Something”, “Sing Something” before (and loved it), I think you’ll have fun playing with HumStar — the app that let’s you hum your way to hours of fun.
Yes, folks, in the tradition of “do something” apps comes yet another iPhone game bound to eat our productivity away.
What kind of game is it exactly and how do you play it?
Think Draw Something for singers, err “hum-ers“. Instead of drawing predetermined words from a set of varying difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard), you have a selection of songs to “hum” and send to your Facebook friends (or random players) for guessing. Each of you get to score points for successful guesses. You hum a song from a list, record and send, wait for a response (a correct guess, hopefully) and restart the process with a new song (from a new list) and repeat this process until either one of you quits or simply decide to ignore succeeding requests. :)
Like in many smartphone games, the fun in HumStar isn’t so much in “playing” the game itself as it is in the underlying act the game requires. In Draw Something, the fun is in the “drawing”. With HumStar, the fun of course is in the “humming”.
From the app’s iTunes page:
HumStar is a fun app that will have you showing off your humming skills and make your friends rack their brain to guess the tunes. And while you needn’t remember the lyrics of the songs, you can still belt them out with your confident humming, sounding like an expert in music. Music junkies can put their knowledge to the test by guessing the hummed tunes, compete with friends and discover new music along the way.
I tried fiddling with HumStar for a few days and I can say I liked it. The only issue I had with it is that currently, there aren’t as many people to play with.
Should you download it?
Well, it’s FREE to download from the Apple App Store [iTunes link] so I’d say you should give it a try. Who knows, you just might like it.
P.S. If you do download it, will you be an angel and play HumStar with me? My username is “rjmarmol“. La la la la la … :)
