Facebook for iPhone updated to include ‘tagging’ feature

Facebook has just updated its iPhone app (version 3.5) which now supports ‘tagging’ feature in posts and added privacy control on posts much like how Google+ works (privacy is determined on a per-post basis).

Here’s a preview of the new update:

Now, you can ‘tag’ your friends on posts (like it’s been possible for a long time on the desktop).

Tagging friends on the comment field, however remains unsupported with the app.

You can also readily attach a location to each post. It brings up the locations currently available on the Check-in feature.

And finally, just like Google+ (sorry, can’t help but compare), inline privacy control has been added to let you choose your privacy setting for each post. If you’ve previously created your own Facebook groups, it works pretty much the same way as Google+ does. After tapping the sharing icon, you can scroll through the list and make your selection.

This is how the new ‘Update Status’ menu looks like.

** Note: In my case, even if the update was successful via the App Store, it didn’t seem to work at first (the new menu for “status update” didn’t appear), I had to remove the Facebook app and reinstall it for the changes to take effect.

Overall, I’d rate this recent update as 4/5 stars.
